Catalog description
This course introduces students to energy auditing methods used to evaluate and improve building performance. Students will learn to analyze building envelopes through detailed inspections, diagnostic testing, and data collection to identify opportunities for energy savings and comfort improvements. Topics covered in lecture and lab include building envelope analysis, insulation and air leakage assessment, thermal imaging, blower door setup and testing, moisture and indoor air quality evaluation, and health and safety protocols. Emphasis is placed on interpreting diagnostic data, preparing energy audit reports, and formulating cost-effective retrofit recommendations in preparation for the BPI Building Analyst certification. Lecture 3 hours and Laboratory 3 hours per week.
