An introduction to the methods of the academic study of religion and analysis of the category of "religion." Provides a nonsectarian survey and analysis of the concepts, practices, and historical and cultural influences of major world religious traditions, which may include indigenous religions, such as Native American, African, Afro-Caribbean, and Oceanic religions; Asian-origin religions, such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism, Confucianism, Taoism, and Shinto; Middle Eastern-origin religions, such as Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Zoroastrianism; and New Religious Movements, such as atheism, Scientology, Neopaganism, and New Age. Students may not receive credit for both HUM-10 and HUM-10H. 54.00 hours lecture. (Letter grade only)
