An overview of the history of adult and juvenile correctional systems in the United States, including historical trends and the eras of correctional philosophy. This course is an analysis of the operation of correctional facilities, including jails, prisons, juvenile facilities, community corrections systems, and custodial facilities run by local, state, and federal jurisdictions. An introduction and overview of corrections-specific statutes, policies, and procedures and civil rights within American corrections. The course also provides an introduction and analysis of current institutions of corrections, modern policies and successes and challenges of correctional agencies, along with current and future needs within the system. 54.00 hours lecture.
