Introduction to the Administration of Justice

Catalog description

An introduction to the history, philosophy, and characteristics of the criminal justice system and it’s sub-systems in the United States. This course will critically examine and analyze the evolution of the principles and approaches utilized by the three components of the justice system in crime control and the evolving forces that have shaped those principles and approaches in a cross-cultural context, emphasizing the relationship and partnership between the police and diverse community populations. Students will be introduced to the origins and development of criminal law, the legal process, sentencing and incarceration policies, while exposed to multicultural awareness and respect for constitutional and human rights. Students may not receive credit for both ADJ 1 and ADJ 1H. 54.00 hours lecture. (Letter grade only)
