Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Tax Preparation

Catalog description
Second a sequence of two courses for students who volunteer in the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Allows students who have successfully passed ACC 19 to apply their tax and software knowledge and training by assisting program-eligible community participants in completing and filing their federal and state tax returns. Students will use the IRS-required Tax Slayer software to prepare and file individual federal and state income tax returns within the scope of the VITA program requirements. Students will also learn how to implement and participate in a system of review, which reinforces the ethics and quality controls taught in the prerequisite VITA training course. Students will also develop their interview, communication, and at times, conflict resolution, skills by working with community members on their tax returns. 9.00 hours lecture and 27.00 hours laboratory. (Pass/No Pass only)
