Catalog description

This course builds upon foundational knowledge of psychiatric-mental health nursing, emphasizing advanced neuroanatomy, psychopharmacology, and the pathophysiology of complex psychiatric disorders. Learners will explore the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of psychotropic medications, focusing on their application in treating co-occurring and treatment-resistant conditions. The course integrates advanced diagnostic reasoning, comprehensive psychiatric assessments, and evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions, preparing students to manage complex cases in diverse populations. Emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary collaboration, cultural competence, and addressing health disparities. Through case studies, clinical simulations, and a focus on leadership and ethical decision-making, students will refine their clinical judgment and develop holistic, patient-centered care plans. This course is the second in the PMHNP didactic series and incorporates advanced health assessment, pharmacology, and informatics.
