Catalog description

This course introduces the role of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with a focus on health promotion, disease prevention, and the assessment, diagnosis, and management of common and complex psychiatric disorders across the lifespan. Students will apply advanced clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice to develop differential diagnoses and individualized treatment plans, including pharmacological and psychotherapeutic interventions. Special emphasis is placed on integrating psychopharmacology, health promotion strategies, and therapeutic communication within the cultural, developmental, and socio-economic contexts of patient care. Through simulations and case studies, students will refine their clinical judgment and leadership skills, preparing them to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and advocate for best practices in mental healthcare.
