Capstone: Urban Administration

Catalog description

This seminar involves reading, writing and research activities requiring demonstration of mastery in analytic and communication skills in developing personalized career plans related to students’ individualized programs of study in fields of Urban Administration. Students will be guided in the understanding of themselves, their majors, their career options and their role in a complex, ever- changing workforce. Through self- assessments, occupation and industry research, the creation of career search documents, informational interviewing, networking, meetings with professionals from various employment sectors, and presentations, students will complete this class with the confidence and the preparedness to secure a position in a field of interest. Students will be required to: complete personalized career development plans; complete short writing assignments; research papers, and meet industry professionals in a variety of settings. An option to do service- learning can be offered to students willing to explore non- profit and government sectors through volunteerism, while connecting their practical experience to course content through weekly reflections and end- term presentation.
