Health Promotion: Societal & Community Advocacy

The Health Promotion: Societal and Community Advocacy course is designed to enable the student to learn and develop the advanced skills necessary to transform groups, communities and populations into healthier societies using occupation-based approaches. Students learn to incorporate population health and societal health theory and frameworks with local, national and global societal health initiatives to address health disparities, health policy, health systems and health equity factors. Students incorporate a client-centered approach to advocating and promoting health at the larger community and organization level with all stakeholders, cultivating interprofessional and cross-collaborative relationships for meeting population health needs. A major focus of this course is the students' ability to examine community factors, culture, contexts, the environment and health determinants for developing a community needs assessment and plan.
