Patient Safety Elective Rotation

Catalog description

This 2-week elective course is designed to introduce the student to the concept of patient safety. In addition to the students learning medical knowledge to understand the mechanism of disease, how to obtain and perform appropriate physical exams, developing sound medical reasoning skills they also need to learn the importance of safety in delivering good quality healthcare. Through the use of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Open School, the student will gain insight into patient safety, quality improvement, triple aim for populations, leadership and person-centered care. This is accomplished through self-paced module-based instruction. The modules are divided into two levels: introductory concepts for health care audiences and intermediate concepts and specialized topic areas. The course also includes scheduled times for review of the patient safety literature with resultant on-line board discussions through Google Classroom.
