Catalog description

The student will be exposed to live patient contact via telemedicine. This platform will allow students to be present during a psychiatric evaluation or follow up visit. This is envisioned to allow the 4th year student to obtain a hands-on, interactive psychiatric experience through telemedicine. The student will be paired remotely with a psychiatrist in various clinical settings; hospital in-patient, emergency department, outpatient clinics and private practice. The student will be expected to shadow the psychiatrist via telemedicine and gain clinical skills in navigating a patient who presents with psychiatric symptoms. The course will offer a 4-week timeline during which the student will be exposed to four specialty areas of focus- child and adolescent, adult, geriatric, and addiction psychiatry.
