Catalog description

This four-week course is designed to familiarize students with drug addiction and the addicted population. Students will become familiar with the basic concepts involved with Addiction Medicine, and will become educated in the identification of addiction, the neurobiology of addiction, and the treatment of addiction. They will also become familiar with the addicted population as a whole. Students will master the individual drugs of addiction, their mechanism of action, and how the brain responds to these drugs. They will understand the changes that take place in the brain that lead to addiction, and will learn to understand the addicted mind and alcoholism. In addition, students will learn how to obtain a waiver in order to treat opiate addicts with Buprenorphine, and will learn how they, too, can become Board Certified in Addiction Medicine.
