Catalog description

This course introduces terminology, tools, and strategies for critically analyzing global and domestic cinema. It focuses on analyzing the narrative elements of various films, thinking about them within historical, cultural, and ideological contexts, while paying considerable attention to camera, editing, production design, sound, genre, and casting and performance. Students will read scholarship and theoretical texts to give them a better understanding of how to view filmic works closely and contextualize their importance and will be introduced to films from a range of global and historical traditions. Prerequisite Course(s): Prerequisite: Take one course in each group: Group 1 (FCWR 101 or FCWR 111 or WRIT 101 or WRIT 111) and Group 2 (FCWR 151 or FCWR 161 or WRIT 151 or WRIT 161) Classroom Hours - Laboratory and/or Studio Hours – Course Credits: 3-0-3
