Catalog description

Prospective teachers focus on the growing diversity of student population in contemporary elementary and secondary schools. Consideration is given to servicing special needs of students from minority families; students with handicapping conditions; those who are identified as gifted and talented; home and community factors are studied in order to foster the health, learning, appropriate behavior and independence of all students in a supportive, respectful and least restrictive environment. Particular emphasis is placed on developing open-mindedness, eliminating prejudicial bias as well as addressing targeted students' strengths and needs. Principles of nonsexist and collaborative education will be explored. Classroom Hours - Laboratory and/or Studio Hours – Course Credits: 3-0-3
