This course introduces pre-service English language arts teachers/or in-service Childhood Education teachers to the fundamentals of theory and practice for teaching English language arts in middle schools. The course is designed to prepare English/language arts teachers to understand, respect and effectively facilitate diverse learners in language development, reading, writing, communication, and literature. instructional strategies, technology resources, and assessments for the reluctant readers will be examined. Course work includes current issues and recent developments in curriculum and methodology in the teaching of middle school English language arts. Ten hours field observation and field experience are required and integrated into the course.
