Catalog description

Data science involves the collection, analysis and subsequent visualization of complex data sets to provide important insights, using statistics, in areas as diverse as science, government, business, education and nearly every aspect of our daily lives. This course is open to all majors and provides an overview of statistics' pivotal concepts. Using open source programming language tools and visualization software packages, students will analyze a freely available public dataset and uncover some useful statistical information from it. Students will gain an understanding of problems solvable with data science and an understanding of how data science can turn vast amounts of data into knowledge through data visualization. Classroom Hours - Laboratory and/or Studio Hours – Course Credits: 3-0-3
