ROB-GY 6403
Autonomous Space Robotics
New York University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This class will study the autonomy algorithms that enable exciting space robotics like satellite constellation maneuvers, precision rocket landings, and rover autonomy. This will be achieved in a seminar style class, where students will read research papers and technical reports and we will have discussions. The students will prepare a midterm and final project where the midterm is to build a physics-based simulator of their mission concept and the final is to build an autonomous capability. Seminar topics include in precision rocket landing, rover navigation, spacecraft swarms, and deep learning applications in space. Project will be to prepare a simulation demo of an autonomous capability for a space system.
