Catalog description

This course is the prerequisite to the more advanced, specialized qualitative methods courses that Steinhardt offers and is open to and appropriate for graduate students in any department or field. This course introduces students to foundational tenets of qualitative research and a range of methods in the qualitative paradigm. The course is a combination of learning about and reading examples of the methods we study – drawing from education, sociology, and psychology, among other fields – and of “hands on” practice in methods such as interview and observation.
