Catalog description

This course considers the responsibilities and challenges of being an engaged professional within the global cultural and creative industries. Through discussions of challenges within the music industry and related arts fields, students will expand their understanding of how these sectors operate across various contexts. While not explicitly political, nor exclusively a course of international study, the colloquium addresses social issues and economic systems that influence the creation, distribution, and management of artistic and cultural work worldwide, and considers practical ways to better understand and address them. Through lectures, presentations, and focused discussions, students will be led to reflect upon their place within their local communities, and personally consider their "think globally, act locally" positions and best practices.
