Clinical Applications in Orthodontics

Catalog description

This course prepares students for competence in basic Orthodontic diagnosis and management. Reviewing and applying components of patient diagnosis and treatment planning in the context of simulated cases, students make clinical decisions based in reason and evidence. Skills assessed include: Diagnosis of malocclusion; Diagnosis of skeletal problems; Treatment planning; Space management (upper and lower arches). Attention is given to occlusal examination, evaluation of facial form and proportion, and radiographic interpretation. The course prepares students to recognize the role of Orthodontics in comprehensive patient care as well as when to seek consultation from a specialist. Foundational knowledge presented in D1 and D2 is reviewed in the context of case-based analysis. This course is open only to students in the Doctor of Dental Surgery program. Core curriculum.
