Otolaryngology Introductory

Catalog description

This is an introductory 2-week elective that seeks to introduce students to the field of Otolaryngology. As an introductory elective, students will be expected to gain a broad understanding of the core principles, foundational knowledge, and essential skills relevant to the specialty through encounters with a diverse range of cases reflective of this specialty. Each student spends one week at Bellevue Hospital and one week at Tisch/Kimmel Hospital. Emphasis is placed on developing the skills to perform an ear, nose and throat, and head and neck examination. They will be introduced to common otolaryngologic complaints and pathologies by attending clinics and ward rounds. They will be able to assist in the operating rooms so they can see the application of their knowledge of regional anatomy and pathology to the surgical treatment of diseases of the ears, nose and throat. Students will also attend both clinical and basic science conferences.
