The Primary Care Sports Medicine Elective is a 2 week rotation in the outpatient Primary Care Sports Medicine offices at NYU. The Division of Primary Care Sports Medicine is a Division within the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. This elective will provide a general overview to Primary Care Sports Medicine. The student will be exposed to outpatient diagnosis and treatment, care and evaluation of common musculoskeletal complaints, medical problems unique to the athlete, sideline coverage, musculoskeletal ultrasound, injection procedures, casting, training room care of collegiate athletes, and the multiple didactic programs of the division. Students will independently interview and examine patients, and present their findings. Clinical encounters range from pediatric to adult, and acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries. This elective is designed for students interested in gaining additional knowledge about musculoskeletal medicine, the complete care of the athlete, and the specialty of primary care sports medicine.
