OART-UT 1059
Experiments in Art and Technology
New York University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
All art uses technology, yet technology alone isn't art—it is the burning spark of imagination and personal vision that rips time, space, and the ordinary apart, harnessing tools and bending materials to create a manifestation born from the mind's eye, and in this course, you will explore the relationships between art, imagination, and technology, paying homage to pioneering engineer-artists of the late 20th and early 21st centuries by reconstructing historic work and learning to embrace the spark, bang, buzz, and smoke that often arise at the periphery of the known. Through research, field trips, discussions, and hands-on projects, you will celebrate past achievements, challenge boundaries, and embark on a personal journey between invention and art.
