Theory for Vocalists

Catalog description

This is an applied music theory course for singers. In this course, students will develop a solid foundation in the fundamentals of music and improve their sight-singing skills. Through a sequential presentation of the basics of modern staff notation and related theoretical concepts, students will learn to identify and interpret musical symbols, and understand their relationship to rhythm, key, and basic chord structures. Students will apply these concepts through in-class individual and group singing exercises, and demonstrate their knowledge through weekly recorded aural assignments that build in complexity as the semester progresses. Prerequisite: None. Fulfillment: General elective.
