New York University · UGRD · Fall 2026
1 section
Catalog description
How do contemporary moving images, such as films, TV shows, and TikTok videos, tell stories? How are those images created, and what technology, aesthetics, visual codes, and conventions are employed to convey meaning and to provoke thoughts and emotions? This course explores these questions by analyzing the key elements (and their interactions) of moving images such as narrative, mise-en-scène, camerawork, editing, and sound. Students will also analyze effective strategies to produce and disseminate media on social issues through traditional and innovative channels.
