This course offers a comprehensive exploration of the early modern Ottoman, Safavid, and Mughal empires through a people-centered, non–Eurocentric lens. It examines the geographically expansive, ethnically diverse, and culturally rich worlds of these empires by focusing on lived experiences rather than distant observers. Alongside major historical events, the course explores socio-political and cultural dynamics, including state formation, identity, political interaction, urban and rural life, and everyday practices. Special attention is given to religious and ethnic minorities, as well as developments in science, art, and architecture, offering a holistic understanding of these empires and their enduring legacies.
