Workshop in Medieval and Renaissance Studies II

Catalog description

This course is a forum for cultivating the interdisciplinary work of students working in the medieval and early modern periods and for expanding their awareness of the professional world of Medieval and Renaissance studies in academia and beyond. Workshop activities will include discussing readings in the fields of the Workshop participants, discussing and critiquing pre- circulated papers or works-in-progress presented by NYU faculty, visiting scholars, and members of the Workshop; and discovering and experimenting with new research tools. In all of these activities Workshop participants will also engage with overarching issues of concern to the field such as the benefits and limitations of periodization, the Digital Humanities, Public Humanities, and the role of Medieval and Renaissance Studies in the academy and in society at large. Enrollment in the Workshop for two semesters, preferably over the course of one academic year, will be a requirement for majors in Medieval and Renaissance Studies. It will usually be taken in their senior year but may be taken earlier with the permission of the MARC.
