Catalog description

The dermatology course elective provides medical students with an opportunity to develop fundamental knowledge and skills in the diagnosis and treatment of dermatologic disease in a 2-week period. Students will be exposed to general dermatology and common procedures performed in the dermatology clinic. You will directly interact with possible internal medicine residents and clinical support staff. Students will be able to properly perform a history and physical examination on patients with skin diseases. Reading and review of assigned materials will be required in preparation for a series of cases discussions. A formal presentation on a topic of the student’s choice will be required in the final week. The goal of the elective is to give students the fundamentals of dermatologic physical examination, diagnosis, and treatment.
