Catalog description

The field of solid mechanics addresses the material physical failure inherent in any product. A deeper understanding of equilibrium as applied to simple structures is presented. The concept of stress and strain due to external effects are systematically introduced. The relationships to material properties are provided to understand product design. In this initial course the emphasis will be on the fundamentals of equilibrium as applied to a structure. Centroids, axial, direct shear, and bending stresses are introduced. | Prerequisites: PH-UY 1013 and MA-UY 1024 . Corequisites: MA-UY 1124 . Anti-Requisites: ME-UY 3213
