Persuasion in Business: Motivating through Media & Communications

In this active and experiential course, you will develop the skills that lead to strong communications regardless of channel or purpose: persuasion. Focusing on audience segmentation, this course incorporates business strategy, channel selection and key tenets of communications to prepare students for strategic comms roles. Topics include engaging internal and external stakeholders, fostering change management, mitigating crises, and leading corporate social responsibility. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Students will gain practical experience in creating the right storylines for the right audiences, with a special emphasis on public and media relations. Using emerging technologies for greater efficiency and to track key performance indicators, the course also focuses on showing the results of communications work. A focus on the ethical implications of persuasion tactics will permeate all studies. Students should expect to present and actively participate in group work and individual assignments to learn and showcase new skills in persuasion.
