Catalog description

This course will study contemporary fictional texts from this region, from the coolie odyssey of Amitav Ghosh to the far-flung journey of Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor’s China and destinations in-between. It will study a range of work by writers from Sri Lanka, Oman, Mauritius and Pakistan. The course will read these works in their contexts and in their intertextual relationship with each other. It will consider how they represent the consequences of historical processes as well as how they represent dilemmas of contemporary events. It will celebrate their achievements and also engage with them attentively and critically.
