Ethical Turn

The Ethical Turn in Art and Technological Practices' is designed to unite two distinctive yet codependent concepts: art and ethics which are paired together to reimagine a decentralized, decolonial and human-centric arts and technological ecosystem. Inspired by interdisciplinary, poetic and non-didactic artist-led solutions this course functions as an ideas forum and seeks to create a multifaceted rigorous space for experimental research and cross-pollination. Intentionally avoiding taking up a position rooted in moral high ground, this course actively moves beyond one dimensional polarized thinking to emphasize the role of multiple subjectivities and truths provided through artistic practices. Arguing for what might be better understood as an ‘ethical turn,’ students will explore artistic, curatorial and historical frameworks and be exposed to broad range cultural materials at both a local and global scale, which critically reevaluate ideas relating to hegemony, position and power, and filter these ideas back into their own respective research. The course will include studio visits, panel discussions and site visits (where possible).
