Catalog description

Kinetics of Literature is a class that combines acting, writing, and literature in the service of creating new dramatic works. Students collaborate in transposing classical literature into performance pieces. The format combines a group of actors and writers (or non-specialized students interested in one of both of these areas of study) who begin by reading and researching selected classics. Then small groups will separately create both text and imagery for the selected literature and then collaborate on combining these pieces for regular open presentations to the community of Villa La Pietra. The primary function of the class is to delve into classic literature as a springboard for original work. The class is focused on how to create and trust dramatic pieces that are fluid, re-worked, in-process, and responsive to the source material and the physical spaces of the villa.
