Catalog description

An introductory course on photojournalism and visual storytelling that focuses on contemporary life in Europe, Italy, and Florence. New technologies have transformed how news photography is produced and distributed, but the strength of the still image is powerful. The course combines in-class and off-site activities, video screenings, discussions on readings and videos, reviews of photographs, and lectures by guest speakers. The classes cover the history of photojournalism and theoretical and technical aspects related to this area of photography. Students will work individually and collaboratively on a series of communications deliverables, including oral group presentations and class discussions.
