Advanced Lab: Speculative Architecture

Catalog description

This course explores the design and discussion of speculative architectural systems, blending advanced 3D modeling with critical imagination. Using Blender’s Modifiers and Geometry Nodes, students will develop procedural design skills to create customizable spatial forms that challenge conventional thinking about architecture and storytelling. Through hands-on projects, visual research, and collaborative critique, students will reimagine architecture as a medium for narrative and cultural expression, evoke emotion, and explore imaginative worlds. Drawing from speculative design, fiction, and contemporary discourse, the course asks: What narratives can we craft through designing architectural spaces? How can architecture speak to cultural identities, future possibilities, or alternative realities? Prerequisite: None. Fulfillment: IMA Advanced Elective.
