The Media World of Animation: History and Theory

Catalog description

This course adopts both theoretical and historical perspectives through which we collectively look at how the art and technology of animation change the way we experience space-time, motion, and life. The course focuses mainly on the animation products and industries in the U.S and Japan, but students will also be exposed to various works from Europe and China. It is the aim of the course to provide students conceptual tools to explore the prismatic existence of animation and its historical, aesthetic, technological, and philosophical dimensions. Prerequisite: None. Fulfillment: IMA major elective; IMB Major IMA/IMB Elective.
