This course, Design Innovation in Action : Project Mjolnir, takes a hands-on, multidisciplinary approach to designing and developing elements and components of an open-source adaptive mountain bike for wheelchair users. Students will explore the intersection of human-centred design, engineering, and accessibility to develop this Award winning innovative mobility solution. Through collaborative projects, participants will engage in user research, prototyping, and testing to develop an adaptive mountain bike that enhances outdoor accessibility. The course emphasizes open-source design principles, ensuring that the final product can be freely shared, modified, and improved by a global community. Key topics include inclusive design, materials selection, mechanical engineering, rapid prototyping, and digital fabrication. Students will work closely with users and adaptive sports enthusiasts to refine their designs based on real-world needs and feedback.
