Creation Lab: Argentinian Style

Creation Lab: Argentinean Style is guided by three tenets: Culture, Creativity, and Collaboration. And with more than 280 theaters, 700 bookstores, an international film festival, underground galleries, vibrant street art, and an opera house considered one of the most important in the world, Buenos Aires is the optimal setting for the exploration of these tenets. In this intense creative laboratory, students will work in cohorts of 3-4 people to develop short projects (études) inspired by various facets of Argentinean culture (e.g., the rituals of a mate ceremony, the architecture of The Teatro Colón, the footwork of La Albiceleste, etc.). Drawing on the same cultural prompt and exploration of a particular creative process, each cohort will have a week to independently brainstorm and develop an artistic response of approximately 20–25 minutes, which they will then present to the class. These responses can take the form of a play, film, dance, photography exhibition, immersive theater, etc. Each cohort will also submit a 1000- word paper to accompany their presentation in which they discuss their intentions for the creative project, their collaborative methods, and assess how effectively they met their goals. Students will be rotated through the cohorts on a weekly basis so that everyone has the chance to work with everyone else. Students will complete 4 études in total.
