Forging a Latino Identity

Catalog description

This course is an introduction to Latino history and to historical thinking. As such, it will present students to core sub-topics, including the maturation of various Latino ethnic groups, the dynamics of immigration control and border enforcement, the role of American imperialism and political economic development in fomenting the movement of people, and the unfolding of movements for civil rights, power and belonging, to name a few. The course moves sequentially, as it begins with the Mexican-American War of 1846 and ends with the rise of Donald Trump to the US Presidency, the border wall and the future of Latinos in American politics.
