Catalog description

This course offers an undergraduate survey of the history of Ukraine, from the medieval history of Kyiv-Rus to the current ongoing war. The course will cover the history of Ukraine within the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the role of the Cossacks in Ukrainian history, the imperial rule of the Romanov and Habsburg empires over Ukraine, the historical experience of Soviet Ukraine including the Holodomor or terror-famine of the 1930s, Ukrainian independence in 1991, and the origins and course of the current war of Russian aggression.
