Identical to EAST-UA 561 This undergraduate seminar introduces how historians, anthropologists, and sociologists try to make sense of the history of science, technology, and the environment in East Asia. We will read basic theories and debates that bother scholars working on the history of science, technology, and the environment in non-western context. We will explore how society, culture, and politics affect knowledge production and people’s engagement with nature, and how these interactions, in turn, shaped society, culture, and politics. All readings are in English, no prior knowledge of East Asia is .
