High quality patient care relies upon careful documentation of each patient’s medical history, health status, current medical conditions and treatment plans. Administrative and financial information is essential for efficient operational support of the patient care process. In order to collect, store, retrieve and analyze this information in an efficient manner, healthcare professional are increasingly utilizing computer-based software. From measuring clinical outcomes to improve quality of care to identifying insurance coverage, from tracking costs to scheduling appointments, computers are at the core of most health services professional’s activities. Indeed, the need to understand and utilize computer-based health care software applications has been intensified by the radical changes brought about by manage care, integration and the rapid developments in information technology. The successful health care professional of the 21st Century must be equipped to understand such software if they are to be prepared, and be part of the changing health care environment.
