Epidemiological Methods I

Epidemiological Methods 1 introduces modern approaches to study design and analysis in population health research. Students will learn to define and evaluate causal effects, estimate disease risk, address measurement error, and understand sources of bias, including confounding, selection, and measurement error. The course covers study designs (such as clinical trials and cohort studies), random variability, associational estimates in causal inference, and target trial emulation. Lectures are paired with labs that provide hands-on experience applying these methods to public health and real-world data. Emphasis is placed on developing the conceptual and analytical skills needed to critically evaluate epidemiological evidence.
