Catalog description

In a time of rapid technological advancement, this course explores the dynamic intersection between emerging technologies and the developing world. This course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the impact, opportunities, and challenges of cutting-edge technologies in the Global South. Throughout the course, students will examine a range of technologies, including but not limited to artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT). The focus will be on how these technologies are harnessed and adapted to address the unique socio-economic, environmental, and cultural contexts in the Global South. Moreover, the class will incorporate the views of those in the Global South to ensure our conversations about opportunities, challenges, and policy represent their perspectives, which are often missing in today’s discussions.
