Post-Production Colloquium

Catalog description

This colloquium will explore the different facets of post-production, introducing students to the editor’s craft as well as how pre-production and production influence the process of finishing a film in post. It will chart the workflow of digital post-production from dailies through rough cut, fine cut, ADR & Foley, sound design, musical scoring, mixing, color, online and more. In these lectures, editing techniques and the use of coverage will be deconstructed through film clips and discussion; Industry guest speakers (as available) will exemplify key roles; students from previous semesters will screen their films and share lessons learned; and current students’ work-in-progress cuts will be screened and discussed. Resources, including script supervisor templates and post-production tutorials, will also be reviewed and provided. This course allocates as a Craft for Film & TV majors. By the end of the semester, students will have gained a better understanding of all facets of post-production and understand the importance of an organized workflow in relation to the completion and delivery of your final film/project.
