Computational Fluid Dynamics

Catalog description

This course introduces the basic concepts of numerical modeling of various flows. The class does not require prior background in computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The course will start with learning general numerical methods for solving partial differential equations, and we will consider variations and modifications for fluid flows. There will be hands-on learning through programming assignments using MATLAB and commercial CFD software. The goal of the course is to understand both the numerical techniques for fluid flows and the physical processes from the calculations.
