Introduction to Macroeconomics

Catalog description

Focuses on the economy as a whole (the ?macroeconomy?). Begins with the meaning and measurement of important macroeconomic data (on unemployment, inflation, and production), then turns to the behavior of the overall economy. Topics include long-run economic growth and the standard of living; the causes and consequences of economic booms and recessions; the banking system and the Federal Reserve; the stock and bond markets; and the role of government policy. Prerequisite: Algebra, Trigonometry, and Functions ( MATH-UA 9 ; formerly Algebra and Calculus) or equivalent, or placement into either Mathematics for Economics I ( MATH-UA 131 ; formerly MATH-UA 211) or Calculus I ( MATH-UA 121 ).
