ECON-SHU 210
Market Design
New York University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
The course is about design of markets, not only in the sense of auctions and matching markets, but also in the broader sense of designing allocation rules in general. We aim to understand why some markets needs to be designed, and what important design elements are. This is particularly relevant for the digital economy where market design is often programed into smart contracts, and market participants may be computational agents. The course includes a series of assignments that builds towards writing a short research paper for the course. The topic of the research paper should be related to the material presented in the course, but must go into more depth with selected issues. Prerequisite: ECON-SHU 3 Microeconomics or ECON-SHU 216 Introduction to Game Theory Fulfillment: Economics Advanced elective.
