Protective relay functions and classification. Electromechanical relay types, operating principles and basic characteristics. Communication channels for relaying. Current and voltage transformers, transducers. Protection of busses, transformers, generators, motors and other station equipment by the zone protection method. Distribution and transmission line relaying systems. Relay setting calculations. Primary and backup protection, application and philosophy with applied relay engineering examples. | Prerequisites: Graduate status and Knowledge of Electric Power System or equivalent.
