Topics in Japanese Studies is a variable-content course examining selected aspects of Japan’s history, literature, culture, media, and society. Some courses might also address the broader Japanese diaspora. Courses may address issues such as colonialism, revolution, modernity, popular culture, identity, and contemporary developments. Through interdisciplinary approaches, students gain a deeper understanding of Japan’s historical developments and its place in the world. Specific topics vary by semester.
